Holiday Parks with Disabled Access

After a recent trip to Center Parcs we were impressed with the facilities for people special needs. We thought it would be a good idea for a quick round-up of whats on offer from the big holiday park companies in terms of disabled access and special needs facilities.

This is based on the information from their own websites rather than first hand knowledge in all cases. Given the nature of the accommodation that holiday parks provide, the majority of static caravan and holiday homes will nor be suitable for wheelchairs or for those that need help going up stairs. That said, many companies have converted holiday homes to make them the ideal place for your next holiday break. For lots more information on disabled travel resources, visit Global Access News

Butlins Holiday ParksButlins run three holiday parks, and the exact accommodation and facilities vary from resort to resort. All of their resorts have a limited number of fully adapted Silver and Gold standard holiday homes. Both types come with a choice of self-catering or dinner bed and breakfast.

Haven Holiday ParksHaven have specially converted holiday homes suitable for wheelchair access at most of their 35 parks. They have a choice of sizes and styles that will be suitable for family and/or carer occupation. Haven’s adapted holiday homes have 2 bedrooms and can sleep up to 6 people.

Haven’s entertainment venues include disabled access and if you;re having trouble, they will do all they can to improve accessibility in a safe and secure environment. You’ll get a welcome pack on arrival at your park, with details of disabled facilities, including their location on a park map. Their website also states that their security team are on hand to assist in any way possible.

Park Resorts

www.Park-Resorts.com25 of Park Resorts’ holiday parks have specially adapted caravans for guests with special mobility requirements. They feature an easy access ramp, sliding entrance doors with wider and easy access to the dining room for wheelchairs. The bathrooms have been adapted with appropriate WC, sink and shower facilities.

Some of their parks are on fairly hilly terrain which may prove tricky for those with mobility issues. Check with booking team to see which parks are suitable. Park resorts have improved¬† their entertainment venues to make them easy to access, but if you do find steps in certain areas, you’ll find an alternative access point to get in. Staff are always on hand to help.

Cente Parcs

The amount of information on the Center Parcs website is staggering, with accessibility for all statements for nearly every venue in their parks. From what we experienced, the staff were very helpful and did all they could to make a sure everyone had a good holiday. Given the vast size of their parks and cars being banned, it was good to see that Center Parcs were offering a pick up service outside the main venue.

Selected cabins have been adapted for disabled and wheelchair access, and like all holiday park companies, its best to call them to find the right accommodation for you.
